Fishy photos: Jim Klug http://globalflyfisher.com/gallery/jim-klug/ Shooter: Photographer and fly fisher Jim Klug tells that it all started with fly fishing and travel. These days, however, he is much more likely to be found in great fishing situations with a camera in his hand instead of a fly rod. Read Jim\'s story and see the stunning pictures here.

This is the first couple minutes of Heart of the Driftless. The DVD release set for March 4th. I made this for a presentation I'm giving at a local TU chapter in a couple weeks but decided to throw it on the web as well. The HOTD piece runs 61 minutes. The DVD also features the full 52 minute version of Reverb which is currently out on the Fly Fishing Film tour.]]>

Pheasant Tail Midge Pupa http://globalflyfisher.com/video/pheasant-tail-midge-pupa
See video in full resolution
I can't recall where I first came across this simple pattern, but it has been very effective for selective fish feeding on midge pupa in the surface film. I grease the cdc wing and the fly hangs in the film. It is perfect for the start of a midge hatch when the rise forms are barely visible- just small dimples on the water's surface. In my neck of the woods I fish it in sizes 18-22]]>

This is a straight forward czech nymph tying sequence, nothing earth shattering. Weight and body taper are formed by lead tape. The color combination on this pattern has been particularly effective. This pattern can also be tied with a tungsten bead. Tie in sizes 10-16.]]>

Fyfishing ICELAND 2011 http://globalflyfisher.com/video/index.php?q=cinnamon-gold-traditional-wet-fly#27719 I actually made a similar pattern once(other secret colour), and it's a real trout killer. On my best trip, i caught 6 Rainbows in 6 casts :) try it, i can only recommend it.

Fyfishing ICELAND 2011 http://globalflyfisher.com/video/index.php?q=varzuga-salmon-fishing#27716 "Jos, Thank you" I had to laugh. Did the almighty Jos Vanrunxt connected this salmon to the guy's fly himself? I hope not. I remember Jos from our times at the Pielach, when he lost the keys of his car, finding out after he was soaked in the river. Went up, to find a screwdriver to unleash his wheelcover, where a spare key was hidden to change clothes. 5 miles up, 5 miles down. Change clothes and 5 miles up and down for a second time, to bring back the screwdriver. Half an hour after that, he "drowned" for a second time. We found him in his car, exhausted, wet, tired and half a sleep. That day, he caught his biggest grayling sofar. We called him "NELIS"

Fyfishing ICELAND 2011 http://globalflyfisher.com/video/index.php?q=slab-fly-variant#27715 I enjoy watching Floris tie his deer hair creations. He is very talented in the art of tying with deer hair. I have improved my tying following his techniques. Thanks Floris!

Fyfishing ICELAND 2011 http://globalflyfisher.com/video/index.php?q=crawfish#27714 That is an excellent pattern. My current go to pattern for crayfish is far more complicated. I plan to tie this tonight. Mark's video presentation of the tying is what really set this apart for myself. Each step is easy to understand without verbal instruction. It is also just beautiful to look at.

Fish safely http://globalflyfisher.com/fishbetter/fish-safely/index.php#27713 One more tip I can attest to. Wear polypro or the like under and over. I took a dunk one cold morning in March over a mile from the truck. I was wearing a belt, so not much got down the waders. I wrung my fleece shirt and polypro top out, put them and my jacket back on and kept fishing. Only shivered while I was topless!

Fyfishing ICELAND 2011 http://globalflyfisher.com/video/index.php?q=quill-body-klinkhammer#27712 Enjoyed your video - Friendly suggestion: Noticed you tend to have about 4-6" of thread exposed out of the bobbin at all times when tying. You'll find it easier to minimize thread exposure as much as possible to avoid snagging stray fibers, etc. in your thread wraps - Also, your hand does not have to travel as far for each wrap,

Jan-Ole Willers http://globalflyfisher.com/staff/willers/index.php#27711 Where can i get the rubber bands you used for the guides. I like your idea with that white constrictor to slide it up the blank. Do you make them yourself?? Rich Thanks, great article.

How to look good http://globalflyfisher.com/fishbetter/like-a-pro-1/index.php#27710 Great article... but you forgot one thing - AGE. Please don't step into my river unless you are a least 60 - I have earned the right to be here - young punk. I may stand here all day and cast a size 28 midge and catch nothing, but don't come here and catch MY fish using that fancy schmancy new technique called nymphing - that's not flyfishing. It's borderline snagging... ;-D

Oatman's Silver Darter http://globalflyfisher.com/streamers/silverdartersbs/index.php#27709 RASKE?!? No freakin' way. Thanks for the kind words, man. It's been a long time. I hope you are pleased that we're keeping Raske's streamer page alive. And you should realize the silver pheasant wing quills above are the ones you sent me years ago along with a couple dyed olive mallard flank feathers for flatwings. Fly tyers don't throw away anything.
